The West Coast Chopper Story
Unless you've been living in a cave, you've probably heard of the West Coast Chopper company. Not only does their cross-shaped logo adorn apparel and accessories found in some of the nation's most popular stores, they have a wildly successful show on the Discovery Channel. Why is this company so successful? There are many reasons, the first being the interest created by the show's leading player, Jesse James.
Jesse James is a distant relative of the legendary outlaw bearing the same name, and is just the type of tough biker that you'd imagine would run a company like West Coast Choppers. James is surly, muscular, tattooed, and knows his way around a motorcycle. Not only that, but he's now married to Sandra Bullock, a famous actress in her own right. Since his youth, James has been obsessed with customizing bikes into amazing new creations.
While it's true that the television show and the interesting personality of Jesse James had something to do with the success of the company, it's the bikes that are the real stars. These chopper-style motorcycles have found a definite following with bike enthusiasts and celebrities alike. Famous names that own a Jesse James creation include Keanu Reeves, Tyson Beckford, Kid Rock, and Shaquille O'Neal, to name a few. The creation of a custom motorcycle takes at least a year, and even the rich and famous have to wait. Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst attempted to entice the company into completing his bike early with a monetary bribe, with no success. As a matter of fact, he was denied a bike at all for his attempt.
In the past ten years, only 200 bikes have been created by this company. Every aspect of a bike made by Jesse James and crew is not just customized, but one hundred percent personalized to meet every preference and expectation of the client. Want one for yourself? Be prepared to pay anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000 or more for the bike of your dreams!
So, what's new for this company? The guys at the West Coast Chopper company are now expanding their expertise and creativity to cars, including drag cars and race cars. Not only that, but Jesse James has founded his own production company called Pay Up Sucker Productions and is currently at work on a project about the history of the chopper. It's safe to say that James and company will keep producing their awe-inspiring creations for years to come!
