Motorcycle jackets are a staple of the biker community. Black leather and bikes go hand in hand, and it's not just for the sake of appearances. These jackets are worn to provide protection against cold, wind, moisture and injury to the skin. While you don't have to own a motorcycle to wear one, if you do own a bike you should definitely have one of these jackets!

Long ago, motorcycle riders wore aviator style leather jackets that featured a mandarin collar and button closure. Usually, these jackets were crafted from goatskin or for a short time, horse hide. Harley Davidson is known as a leader in the motorcycle industry, and have been producing jackets for riders to wear since 1910. In the 1940's, Harley Davidson introduced their Cycle Champ and Cycle Queen jackets for men and women, respectively. Other manufacturers saw the popularity of these jackets and began modeling their own jackets after those made by Harley Davidson.

These days, Harley is still a trusted name in not only the production of motorcycles but also of the jackets to go along with them. They offer lots of different choices when it comes to rider apparel. One of their popular choices for men is the Independence Leather Jacket. This coat is crafted from black leather and features classic styling like zippered pockets and a snap down collar. For ladies, check out the Passion Leather Jacket, a classically styled leather jacket that's pretty in pink. Of course, not all women want to deck themselves out in girly pink, so Harley offers a variety of black jackets for the ladies as well. Harley Davidson even offers jackets, helmets, and biker theme apparel for kids.

There are also jackets made for use in the rain, and even heated jackets! Not all jackets for riders are crafted from leather, some are made from synthetic materials. The best thing to do when shopping for a jacket is to visit a physical location store and try on the ones that interest you. You want to make sure that you like the look, feel and fit of the jacket before purchasing. Along with motorcycle jackets, biker supply stores also sell other apparel and accessories as well. You may also want to consider some protective gloves, chaps, and definitely a good pair of boots. And don't forget your helmet -- the most important accessory for any biker!
